Cultural Diversity is always one of the Core Value in UTM and Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS). On the occasion of Chinese New Year (CNY), Post Graduate Student Society (PGSS) Committee arranged a House Party at Horizon Hills on 24 January 2020 (CNY EVE) from 3 PM to 8 PM for our Postgraduates (mainly from China) who stay in Malaysia for the duration of the CNY.

The participants practised the traditional style of the ceremony started from writing the CNY Poetic Couplets of Calligraphy. Our Chinese postgraduates explained the meanings & values of Calligraphy in Chinese culture during CNY to our non-Chinese committee members, Such as the character “Fu” (福) meaning “Prosperity”, “Gong Xi Fa Cai” (May you attain greater wealth) and “Nian Nian You Yu” (Wish you an abundance new year). Ms. Sidra Salam, Treasurer of PGSS AHIBS (JB), wrote her name in Chinese by drawing Chinese calligraphy letters first time in her life.

Traditionally, the CNY Reunion Dinner in China must contain the part of making the CNY dumplings together by the family members. To make all participants get involved in the event, the CNY Reunion Dinner (Halal) was prepared specially for our Muslim friends on that day, the seniors of our Chinese postgraduates taught all the participants the way of making Chinese dumplings.

During the CNY Reunion Dinner, participants from all nationalities shared their cultures and ways of celebrating their traditional festivals, all the guests were amazed by the various manners and customs that practised by different countries.

Following PGSS members from PGSS AHIBS (JB) and PGSS SC attended the event and graced the Ceremony with their presences on behalf of PGSS.
