Introduction
The materials lecture competition started as an idea by IMM to organize a competition that allows our young students and researchers, particularly in the area of materials science and engineering, to showcase their presentation skills and share their knowledge on issues of materials and their roles in society whilst addressing an informed audience. The competition has now become nationwide, whereby about twenty IPTA/IPTS participated in the competition at the national level since the year 2012. The first winners at the National-level competition represented Malaysia in the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition (YPWLC) which was held in Hong Kong (2013), the USA (2014), Ireland (2015), Brazil (2016), Australia (2017), South Africa (2018), United Kingdom (2019) and virtually held last year (2020).
This is the 10th time Materials Lecture Competition organized by the School of Mechanical Engineering (SKM), Faculty of Engineering, UTM in collaboration with the School of Graduate Studies (SPS, UTM) and the Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM) after the successful first to ninth editions, which were held in the year 2012 to 2020. For this year’s UTM-MLC 2021 competition, SKM-SKBSK Postgraduate Students Society and IMM-UTM Student Chapter joined hand in hand as co-organizers of the event. After carefully review their abstracts and went through a screening process, only 10 participants were selected to compete and vie for the chance to represent UTM in the National Material Lecture Competition 2021 (MLC 2021) hosted by USM. It is anticipated that more than 18 universities will compete in the semi-finals (2nd June 2021) and only the top five (5) presenters will compete in the finals (16th June 2021). The champion will represent Malaysia and compete at the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition 2021 (YPWLC2021) which also will be held virtually in November 2021. Rules and Eligibility
