JOHOR BAHRU, 16th Nov 2021 – The past postgraduate structured course entitled Writing and Tips for Publication was successfully conducted by the new line-up of PGSS SKE 20212022/1. The course aimed to guide and provide tips to participants on article writing for publication. This course marked the opening activity for the society. The program went for about 2 and a half hours online via WEBEX. There were 119 in total including undergraduates and postgraduate students from UTM students as well as from other universities. All seven committee members of the society are actively involved in making this course a success.
The appointed speaker for the course is Dr. Raimi bin Dewan @ Abdul Rahman who has notable experience in publishing many kinds of articles. He presented the tips and overall ideas about writing and publishing based on his experience as a student until he became an honored reviewer. He encouraged the participants to start writing without being too concerned about failure and rejections. He started his talk by sharing the types of articles and clarifying the sections of articles to make participants understand how to construct every section effectively. He also unraveled the process to get academic articles published as well as to understand that rejection in publication is also one of the processes to get better in writing and publishing. Additionally, he also shed light on the most preferable style and organization of publication articles to the participants. Besides, he demystified the roles of reviewer and editor as well as how to please them through writing. He also advised participants to beware of predatory articles and how to identify them.
In conclusion, Dr. Raimi has reflected the writing and tips for publication he knows to the participants brilliantly. Based on the feedback, the participants responded that they understood the context and were interested to join future related courses to explore more. To put it concisely, the participants have benefited from the course and the course has met its objective.
