JOHOR BAHRU, 28 March – The sixth postgraduate structured course entitled “The Magic of Action: Steps to Excel in PhD” has been successfully conducted by Postgraduate Student Society of School of Electrical Engineering (PGSS-SKE), School of Graduate Studies (SPS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on 28th March 2022.

The course aimed to guide postgraduate students on how to take action (to write early & often, read papers, learn new knowledge, communicate with supervisors, seek support), how to set goals (number of publications, time to graduate), set up PhD timelines and milestones (Gantt chart), keep track of everything during PhD journey (log-book), how to stop procrastination, stay energetic, productive & motivated, prioritize the tasks. There were a total of 98 participants including undergraduates and postgraduate students from UTM as well as from other universities.

The appointed speaker of the session is Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Haizal Bin Jamaluddin who has been involved in many IoT based industry projects. To date, has published 80 technical journals including Electronics Letters, Antenna and Propagation Wireless Propagation Letters (AWPL), IEEE Access, Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications (JEMWA) and more than 160 technical conference papers on the design and performance of various types of antennas.

The moderator started the session at 2:30 pm by introducing the topic and speaker. The speaker shared knowledge and advice on the best practices, strategies and insights for achieving excellence in the PhD journey. The speaker enlightens the participants with his personal experience and insight throughout his own study. The sharing was delivered with impeccable wisdom packed with amusing humour.

Before the session ended at 4.30 pm, the speaker had brilliantly answered the questions raised by the participants.
