14 June, Johor Bahru – The fourth postgraduate structured course entitled “Route to Professional Engineer” has been successfully conducted by Postgraduate Student Society of School of Electrical Engineering (PGSS-SKE), School of Graduate Studies (SPS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on 14th June 2022.

The course aimed to explain the route to professional engineers to postgraduate students and share the related knowledge on the Member of Institution of Engineers Malaysia (MIEM) and Professional Engineer (PE) with BEM, the roles of BEM and IEM, information on Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and Engineering Competency Development (ECD), and lastly the overview of Professional Interview and Competency Examination. The program went for about 2 hours online via Cisco- Webex meeting. There were a total of XXXX participants including undergraduates and postgraduate students from UTM as well as from other universities.

The appointed speaker of the session is Prof Ir Dr Sharul Kamal Bin Abdul Rahim, a Professor in School of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He is also a senior fellow researcher at Wireless Communication Centre (WCC), which is a Higher Education Center of Excellence. His research interests are antenna design, beamforming network and microwave design. Prof Ir Dr Sharul Kamal Bin Abdul Rahim is a Professional Engineer under BEM, Corporate Member under IEM, Senior Member of IEEE and Member of APEC and IntPE.

The moderator started the session at 2:30pm by introducing the topic and speaker. The speaker shared the overview on how to become a Professional Engineer under Board of Engineers Malaysia and Institute of Engineers Malaysia.

Before the session ended at 4.30pm, the speaker had excellently answered and responded to the questions raised by the participants.
