16 June, Johor Bahru – PGSS SKA was pleased to conduct the sixth structured course through an online platform the given title “Tips & Tricks to Publish in High Impact Journal” on 16th June 2022 (Thursday) through the Cisco Webex platform. The speaker involved is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhisham bin Bakhary with expertise in vibration, structural health monitoring and structural engineering. Notably, he scored a H-index of 15 on Scopus through his outstanding technical publications. This online structure course was promoted 2 weeks before through media platforms, such as PGSS’s official Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp. This program was open to all UTM students, including undergraduate and postgraduate students. A total of 76 participants took part in this structured course.

This course aims to:

  1. To give some ideas and exposure to the students on how to develop a good research paper and published it in a high impact journal.
  2. To increase students’ understanding of the requirement to publish papers in a high-impact journal.

The Cisco Webex meeting opened from 9.30 a.m. for participants to log in, and the opening ceremony was conducted at 10.00 a.m. After the moderator finished a brief speaker’s introduction, this session was handed to the speaker at 10.05 a.m. The speaker started the presentation by introducing the importance for research publication. The speaker shared the tips and tricks to the participants on how to produce impactful research such as sourcing the reference materials from appropriate databases, improving the writing skills and emphasizing authorship and affiliation. A five-minute break was given at 11.30 a.m.,The QnA session was held at 11.35 a.m. The speaker is able to communicate with the participants through this session and it helps to clarify a lot of uncertainties questioned by the participants. The session ends at 12.00 p.m. The closing ceremony was conducted after the end of the photo session, and the program ended at 12.05 p.m. Positive comments such as informative, educative, and professional were received from the feedback form.
