1st June 2023, JOHOR BAHRU – The fifth postgraduate structured course entitled “Publication in a Scientific Journal” has been successfully conducted by Postgraduate Student Society of School of Electrical Engineering (PGSS-SKE), School of Graduate Studies (SPS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on 1st June 2023.

The course aimed to guide and provide tips to postgraduate students on the procedure to publish in scientific journals, including but not limited to how to select appropriate journals (based on aims and scope of journals); how to prepare a high-quality manuscript (based on author guidelines) and how to write cover letter. The program went for about 2 hours online via Cisco-Webex meeting. There was a total of 56 participants including undergraduates and postgraduate students from UTM as well as from other universities.

The appointed speaker of the session is Prof Ts Dr Mohamad Kamal B.A Rahim. Prof. Mohamad Kamal A. Rahim (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Eng. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Strathclyde, U.K., in 1987, the M.Eng. degree in science from the University of New South Wales Australia, in 1992, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Birmingham, U.K., in 2003.He joined the Department of Communication Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala
Lumpur, as an Assistant Lecturer, in 1989. his previous project supervision includes a total of more than 100 undergraduate students along with 50 Masters project, 20 Master by Research and 16 PhD students have been graduated.

Currently he is supervising 16 Phd and 1 Master Research students. He has written more than 200 articles in international journals and conference proceedings; 80 papers are in Scopus, while more than 70 papers are in ISI Web of Science. In the year 2018, he was awarded for Distinguished Researcher during CITRA KARISMA. In 2018 he was awarded top research Scientist in Malaysia (TRSM), which was given by the Academy of Science of Malaysia. The total amount of research grants obtained is more than RM 5 million. The total awards that he has received through national competitions are 5 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze.

For the international competition, his product manages to secure 4 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze. His research interests include the design of dielectric resonator antennas, microstrip antennas, small antennas, microwave sensors, RFID antennas for readers and tags, multifunction antennas, microwave circuits, EBG, artificial magnetic conductors, metamaterials, phased array antennas, computer-aided design for antennas, and design of millimeter frequency antennas.

The moderator started the session at 2:30pm by introducing the topic and speaker. The speaker shared the tips on publishing in scientific journal.
