11th May 2023, JOHOR BAHRU – The course arranged by PGSS MJIIT is regarding how to construct a good sign of literature review especially on the writing literature review. The course entitled ‘The art of literature review’ was proposed featuring the expert, which is Dr Ubaidillah, PhD in Universitas Sebelas Maret. The course was then promoted in the email and whatsapp group community, focusing on the MJIIT postgraduate students. The course was aimed to share knowledges amongst students and researchers on how to construct outline for literature review. A total of 25 participants were attended during the session.

Tentatively, the program was started at 10.15 by welcoming remarks from moderator and briefly introduced the speakers and speakers began their talk. The program continued with QnA session which was also participated by several other MJIIT lecturers and also from industry. Some questions were regarding on the ‘what is the risk if the manuscript draft has been cited the retracted references.

Dr Ubaidillah explained that eventhough the paper cited with retracted references, the crossref still can be indexed. Then, another question related on the bad sign on the writing literature and the references with proceedings. The course was ended at approximately 12.00 pm, followed by a group photo session. The feedback from participants showed positive response. PGSS MJIIT is taking the suggestion for consideration.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

The main objective of this program is to provide an in-depth understanding of the importance and purpose of conducting a literature review. Through examples and case studies, attendees will learn how to approach a literature review, identify relevant sources, and synthesize information to form a cohesive narrative.

The specific
objectives are as below:
1. To help attendees develop their critical thinking and analytical skills in conducting a literature review. Through discussion and analysis of sample literature reviews, attendees will learn how to evaluate sources, identify gaps in research, and formulate research questions.

2. To provide practical guidance on the process of conducting a literature review. Attendees will learn how to use search tools and databases effectively, organize their sources and notes, and write a literature review that is clear, concise, and effectively communicates their research findings.

3. To highlight the challenges and pitfalls that researchers may encounter when conducting a literature review. Through case studies and examples, attendees will learn how to avoid common mistakes, such as cherry-picking sources or failing to consider alternative viewpoints and develop strategies for addressing conflicting or contradictory research findings.
