A qualitative study is a research study on which the researcher relies on participants \u2019views, asking broad and general questions, collecting data in the form of words or texts from participants, explaining and analyzing the words such in the form of themes as well as conducting inquiries in a subjective form. The research method used by the researcher plays a very important role in qualitative study. Therefore, the Association of Graduate Students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (PGSS FSSH) has held a structured course entitled \u201cQualitative Research In Social Sciences And Humanities \u201don Monday 18 August 2021. The program was organized by the PGSS team and lead by Iswaran Gunasegaran.<\/span><\/p>\n This structured course was conducted through the Webex platform. It starts from 3.00 afternoon to 5.00 pm and includes a question and answer session between the invited panel and participants. A total of 130 participants from several faculties attended the program. Participants consist of from UTM graduates and staff. At the end of the session, the invited panel of Prof. Dr. Zuraidah Binti Mohd Don has received positive and constructive feedback from participants on knowledge sharing sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n Prof. Zuraidah Mohd Don has built up a balanced academic profile, and has not only developed strengths in research and publication and in teaching, but has also contributed to the university\u2019s \u2018third mission\u2019 to the local community, especially in early education. Her research covers a wide field centred on the study of language, ranging from Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis to Corpus Linguistics, Language Structure and English Language Teaching. <\/span><\/p>\n The program aims to give a brief introduction on qualitative research. Prof Zuraidah, explained in depth the bits and pieces of the qualitative research and the parts needed to be included in a qualitative research. The feedbacks received from the participants were overall positive and some of them claimed that they needed the course to be extended.<\/span><\/p>\n Based on the feedback given by the participants, this course is very beneficial for assisting them in the data analysis phase in their research. Participants also appreciated this highly detailed, informative, and interactive session.
