Graduate Supervision Course / Supervisory Evaluation Pack (AS103)

INTRODUCTION This module aims at assessing knowledge acquired and capability possess of a supervisor by an experienced colleague (educational mentor who has already graduated several PhD candidates) regarding PhD supervision process at UTM via mentor-mentee process.
COURSE CONTENT
  1. Involve a mentor-mentee sharing knowledge process.
  2. The mentee will be guided by a mentor on best-practices in supervision.
  3. The mentee will have to produce a self-assessment write up that describes a supervisor’s beliefs on supervision and supervisory practices, the roles of research students, the roles of a supervisor, supervisory profiles.
MENTOR’S CRITERIA
  1. Professor or Associate Professor with vast experience in supervising a postgraduate student (has already graduated several PhD candidates as Main Supervisor) OR
  2. Senior Lecturer with vast experience in supervising postgraduate students (has already graduated several PhD candidates as Main Supervisor.  *Note: This applies if there’s a limitation among the current Professor / Associate Professor.  The form must be recommended by the Faculty’s Deputy Dean (Academic).
  3. The mentor must be from the same field / faculty.
