OVERVIEW OF VIVA PROCEDURE IN UTM
Step 1: Three months before your thesis submission deadline
The duration of three months is given to you to submit a notice of thesis submission (NHT). You will submit to your supervisor the notice, and your supervisor will nominate examiners of your thesis. The nomination of examiners will be approved by the university Postgraduate Studies Academic Committee (JAPSU). Once approved, the School of Graduate Studies will issue appointment letters to the examiners and faculty will arrange for the viva session.
Step 2: Thesis submission
Once the thesis is ready for submission, you are required to complete the thesis submission forms, run similarity test using Turnitin and get your supervisor approval. Please make sure that your thesis follows the UTM template and guideline. Please prepare three copies of your thesis to be submitted to the examiners to your faculty postgraduates office. The last day of thesis submission is on the last working day of the semester. You may find the date at the work schedule and course registration date.
Step 3: Before the viva session.

Step 4: After your viva session.
Make sure you collected all the documents from the postgraduate office for you to start addressing examiner comments. Make sure you discuss with your supervisor on the corrections and the deadline for submitting the corrections. You should consult your faculty postgraduate office, incase you need additional time to do correction. Please note that any extension is subject to the university approval.
Once you have address all the comments and your supervisor has approved the corrections, complete all forms and submit your corrections to the faculty postgraduate office. The faculty will prepare documents for senate approval.
